NEW Study Recruiting- It is a study investigating the use of low dose estrogen at an earlier than standard age (11.5 – 13 years) compared to the more standard 14 – 15 years of age. It is a randomized multicenter trial which has three treatment arms: one group will receive a very low estrogen patch while on growth hormone, the second group will receive a low dose estrogen patch on growth hormone, and the third group will continue growth hormone as is, without estrogen. We are interested in determining whether very low dose or low dose estrogen improves height or at least achieves the same height compared to delaying estrogen treatment. A preliminary study suggests that starting low dose estrogen earlier achieves the same height if not better, with the added advantage of starting puberty earlier. Although the principal site is at the
University of
Chicago, it is a multi-center trial with participating hospitals in other cities.
